Meadow Lark/Fence Line Stand, 2017, Latex paint on canvas over plywood, concrete, construction materials, balloons, grass trimming line, surveying tape, broom and detritus, 64 x 48 inches

The American Plains transformed by agribusiness and land development scarcely resemble the natural habitat that made them “Great”. The disappearing sound and sight of the Meadow Lark is emblematic of this decline. Household paint company, Benjamin Moore, however, has chosen to inspire decor by naming a paint color Meadow Lark, thus ensuring the bird’s future – at least in our imagination.
